£5,000 Compensation Secured for Injured Child After Unsafe Hotel Pool Incident

When Natasha Sundharawipath and her young Son, Saracen Love, jetted off for a luxury break at the Royalton Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, they expected two weeks of sun, relaxation, and family memories. Instead, their long-awaited holiday turned into a traumatic experience just one day after arrival.

While walking in the hotel’s swimming pool, Saracen suffered a deep laceration to his foot caused by broken tiles — a hazard that had reportedly affected other guests before and after the incident. Bleeding profusely and visibly distressed, Saracen had to be taken to the hotel doctor and later rushed to hospital for painful stitches. Their holiday was effectively over. Confined to a wheelchair and unable to swim, he could no longer enjoy the facilities or the tropical getaway his family had booked in good faith.

Holiday Claims Bureau Instructed

Frustrated by the lack of accountability and the inadequate compensation offered by the tour operator, Natasha turned to us at Holiday Claims Bureau for help pursuing a holiday accident claim. Our solicitor, Michael Walker, took on the case and worked diligently to hold TUI accountable under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. During our investigation, we uncovered serious safety failings at the hotel, including a troubling history of similar pool-related injuries, poor maintenance standards, and a lack of proper customer service and medical support.

“Saracen’s injury was entirely preventable,” said solicitor Michael Walker.  “Our investigation revealed this wasn’t an isolated case. Hotels promoted as safe and family-friendly must meet expected standards and in this case, they fell woefully short. I’m pleased we were able to achieve justice and compensation for Saracen and her family.”

£5,000 Compensation Secured for Child’s Pain and Suffering

Following a thorough legal process, Holiday Claims Bureau successfully secured £5,000 in compensation for Saracen — recognising not only his physical injuries and lasting scarring, but also the loss of enjoyment, pain, and emotional trauma caused by the accident.

“I’m so grateful to Holiday Claims Bureau and Michael Walker,” said Natasha Sundharawipath.  “They treated us with care and professionalism from start to finish. Thanks to them, we’ve had the closure we needed, and it feels like someone finally listened to our experience.”
