£5,000 Compensation Secured for Student After Holiday Illness at Luxury Resort

A Dream Holiday Turns Into a Medical Emergency

When 19-year-old university student Jessica jetted off to the Calista Luxury Resort in Antalya, Turkey, she was looking forward to ten nights of rest and indulgence on an all-inclusive basis. But just two days into her stay, Jessica’s holiday turned into a nightmare.

“I woke up in the early hours of the morning with terrible stomach cramps, and then it all started — the vomiting, the diarrhoea, the fever. I was completely floored,” said Jessica.

Despite reporting her illness to both the hotel and Jet2 Holidays’ representative, and undergoing treatment at a local clinic where tests confirmed salmonella poisoning, Jessica’s condition was so severe that it ruined the rest of her holiday.

A Clear Case of Holiday Illness

Jessica consumed only food and drink served at the hotel and noted that some meals, including chicken, were served undercooked. She received medical treatment on two occasions during the holiday and continued to suffer symptoms for weeks after returning home.

A leading gastroenterologist, confirmed in a formal report that Jessica’s illness was consistent with salmonella gastroenteritis, likely caused by a breakdown in hygiene or food handling procedures at the hotel.

Legal Action With Holiday Claims Bureau

Jessica reached out to Holiday Claims Bureau, where our legal executive, Olive Linton, led the case. After a thorough legal investigation and submission of a detailed medical report, we secured £5,000 in compensation for Jessica.

Mr Linton commented: “Jessica’s illness was entirely preventable. Our investigation found clear grounds for a holiday illness claim. No one expects to be exposed to contaminated food on holiday. We’re pleased to have secured justice and fair compensation for Jessica.”

Life After the Claim

Although the financial settlement can’t undo the distress or lost time of Jessica’s ruined holiday, she expressed her relief and satisfaction with the outcome.

Oliver and the team at Holiday Claims Bureau were brilliant. They made everything easy to understand and supported me throughout the process. I’m really grateful — the compensation has helped with the costs I incurred and more.”
