Spain Holiday Illness Outbreak Under Investigation
We are investigating a suspected outbreak of cryptosporidium linked to stays at the Evenia Zoraida Garden hotel in Roquetas de Mar, Costa de Almeria, Spain, after several British holidaymakers became unwell during or shortly after their holidays.
We have been contacted by a number of holidaymakers who have received confirmed diagnoses of cryptosporidium following their stay at the hotel. The holiday was booked through Jet2holidays.
Our clients were part of a larger group of British holidaymakers, with over 15 members of the party reporting symptoms of gastrointestinal illness. Several others within the group have also since been diagnosed with cryptosporidium, prompting us to investigate whether there may be a wider outbreak affecting other guests.
We are urging affected holidaymakers to come forward

What is Cryptosporidium?
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes cryptosporidiosis, a highly infectious gastrointestinal illness. Infection is commonly associated with contaminated food or water, including inadequately treated swimming pools, as well as poor hygiene practices.
Symptoms typically develop between two and 10 days after exposure and may include:
- Persistent diarrhoea
- Stomach cramps
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fever
- Loss of appetite
- Fatigue
- Weight loss
While many people recover within a few weeks, symptoms can be particularly severe for young children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems.
Michael Walker comments
Michael Walker, the solicitor currently representing the affected holidaymakers, said:
“We are currently investigating this hotel for several clients who contracted cryptosporidium after staying at the Evenia Zoraida Garden. The fact that so many members of one holiday group became unwell is concerning, and we are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding these illnesses. We are keen to hear from any other British holidaymakers who stayed at the hotel and experienced symptoms, as they may also have grounds to pursue a compensation claim.”
