Compensation Victory: Holidaymaker Awarded £3000 After Electric Shock in Mexican Hotel

Our specialist accident on holiday solicitors have helped a client who suffered injury on holiday in Mexico when he suffered an electric shock in his hotel room.

Our client, Mr E was on holiday in May 2022 staying at the Hotel RIU Playacar in Cancun, Mexico.

One morning, Mr E had got out of the shower and went to close the curtains in his hotel room. As he did so, he touched an exposed live electric wire which was hidden behind the curtain. The live wire was exposed with no electric casing. An exposed wire in a hotel in Cancun, Mexico

Mr E immediately went into shock, his arm was completely numb and he started to suffer with chest pains. He saw the hotel doctor who referred him to a local hospital for tests. He remained in hospital for a couple of days whilst he underwent an ECG scan and he was provided with muscle relaxant medication. Fortunately, Mr E recovered from his injuries within four weeks.

Mr E instructed the Holiday Claims Bureau to make a claim for compensation against the tour operator TUI after making an enquiry through our website.

Our team pursued the claim and obtained all the relevant evidence to help support the claim.

Following negotiations with the holiday company, the specialist holiday accident team at Holiday Claims Bureau were able to secure a settlement of £3000 for Mr E.

Holiday Claims Bureau solicitor, Michael Walker represented Mr E against TUI said:

“When people book a holiday they expect to be able to have a relaxing break without worrying about standards of health and safety in the hotel where they are staying. It is quite incredible that a live electric wire was left exposed in a hotel room. Fortunately, the injury suffered by our client was not a lot more serious.”
