The Complaints First Reported in April 2024
When this article was first published on 12 April 2024, HCB said it was representing guests from three different travelling parties who had reported finding bed bugs in their rooms over the preceding months.
The article also quoted separate TripAdvisor reviews. These were attributed guest accounts, rather than statements identifying the reviewers as HCB clients:
- Catherine M: reported bed bugs in her room and said staff appeared neither concerned nor surprised when she complained.
- Explore682451: said marks they attributed to bed bug bites were still visible two weeks later.
- Dandiscoballs: alleged bugs in hallways, bathrooms, carpets, blankets, walls and beds, and believed guests were still being placed in affected rooms despite the problem.
The Resort’s Response Recorded at the Time
The April report said BLUESEA Puerto Resort had acknowledged a bed bug problem and referred to the issue affecting other parts of Europe. It also recorded the resort’s assurance that it was working with a specialist company to address the infestation.
Some guests nevertheless reported finding little resolution despite assurances from management. HCB questioned whether the response had provided adequate reassurance and solutions. These historical accounts concern the position reported in 2024; the case update does not establish the resort’s present condition.
What to Keep If Your Own Stay Was Affected
Keep records relating to your own room and experience, rather than relying only on another guest’s review:
- Photographs and video: insects, signs in the room and any visible bites, with dates and room details.
- Complaints and replies: what you reported to the accommodation or holiday company, inspection findings and any solution offered.
- Treatment records: medical notes, prescriptions and receipts where you received treatment.
- Your booking and timeline: how you booked, when the problem arose and how the stay was affected.
You do not need every item before asking for an assessment. Our guide to what to do after finding bed bugs in a hotel covers immediate reporting and next steps.
