Jessica Pople secured £3,500 with Holiday Claims Bureau after a family lodge break in Brean left her with more than 50 bed bug bites, time away from her salon and lasting skin discolouration. Oliver Linton handled her claim for bed bug bite compensation.
A Family Break Interrupted by Painful Bites
Jessica, a beauty salon owner, had booked four nights away with her family. On the second morning, she woke with itchy, inflamed marks on her wrists. By the next day, painful bites covered her arms, legs, torso, chest, back and face.
After being told that the room was fine, she found bed bugs behind the headboard. When she presented the evidence, the lodge acknowledged that bed bugs were present, but did not provide written acknowledgement or proper aftercare.
Treatment, Lost Work and Lasting Effects
Medical reports recorded more than 50 bites. Jessica needed antibiotics, antihistamines and steroid medication to manage the infection and allergic reactions described in her case.
| Area of Impact | Details From Her Case |
|---|---|
| Recovery and Family Life | She reported being bed-bound for a week and unable to work or care for her daughter. |
| Work and Expenses | Her claim accounted for medical treatment, prescriptions and lost earnings from her salon. |
| Skin Changes | Permanent skin discolouration on her right wrist and forearm formed part of the claim. |
| Emotional Effects | Her claim also accounted for psychological trauma. |
Jessica explained: “It impacted every part of my life—from work to sleep. I still panic when I stay in hotels, afraid I’ll go through it all over again.”

The Evidence Behind Jessica’s Claim
Jessica instructed Holiday Claims Bureau to pursue a claim against the holiday provider. The claim cited the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Oliver Linton described the evidence:

£3,500 Secured for Jessica
Jessica’s claim settled for £3,500.
This was Jessica’s individual outcome. The amount and result of another claim depend on its own circumstances, injuries and evidence.
Reflecting on the settlement, Jessica said: “I’m just glad I had a team that believed in my story and made it easy for me to get the outcome I deserved.”
