Holiday Village Lanzarote – food poisoning claims continue after scores take legal action

The 4-star, all-inclusive Holiday Village Lanzarote has come under fire from holidaymakers, with one guest claiming that an absence of “basic food hygiene” left their daughter hospitalised with salmonella poisoning.

The recent glut of adverse reviews comes as 65 Brits staying say they are taking legal action after they were struck down by gastric illnesses.
RMC, posting a review on TripAdvisor, praises the entertainment staff and the local area but says that inadequate food hygiene practices left a child in the travelling party, and others, unwell:

“On day 4 of our holiday unfortunately our daughter became very poorly. She was admitted to hospital and placed on a drip and tested positive for salmonella food poisoning. She wasn’t the only person who became unwell with many families also receiving positive results for salmonella. This meant she spent the remainder of our holiday in the room.

“The basic food hygiene expected at any hotel was not present here,” the review goes on to say.  “The restaurant was poor with food being lukewarm at best. Even if you waited for fresh food to come out it still wasn’t hot. Plates, cups and cutlery were often dirty and tables were not cleaned well enough. Pools were not cleaned daily like you see at most hotels. Drinks often ran out and water was warm as they refused to plug the machines in.

“This hotel does not live up to the standard of other holiday villages and sadly we will not return.”

Guest claims “Over 70” Salmonella cases

Fellow August guest Ele2019 says that she and her daughter endured a ‘holiday from hell’ and were among many who suffered distressing gastric symptoms:

“We had to take my daughter to the walk in centre as (she) had the most horrific pains, dizzy, diarrhoea, and practically collapsed. Advised we both had gastroenteritis.

Two days later sent to hospital as was so severely ill from dehydration unable to move from the bed from being so violently ill. This lasted for 12 full days !! A week later we got our results and both of us had salmonella food poisoning.

…There were approx 100 guests ill, the hotel was reported to the sanitation commission as so many people were falling ill. This is now over 70 confirmed salmonella !!!

The review goes on to allege that food was “lukewarm” and that cross contamination was witnessed with the same utensil being used for both raw and cooked meat.

Andy and Claire, staying at the Holiday Village in late July and early August also claim that there have been a number of instances of illness:
“There is no disputing there were cases of severe sickness and it was extremely distressing for the families involved, including our friends who always supervised their child and didn’t let them run round picking things up.”
