Couple receive compensation after being bitten by bed bugs at the Tryp Hotel in Tenerife.

The team at the Holiday Claims Bureau have successfully recovered compensation for a couple that suffered bed bug bites whilst staying at the Tryp Hotel in Tenerife.

Bedbugs are a growing problem in the hotel industry both in the UK and abroad. Bed bug bites are particularly unpleasant and can result in significant discomfort and even scarring.

After the couple’s first night at the Tryp Hotel, they woke up with itchy and painful red bites all over their body. They were horrified to realise they had been sleeping in a bed riddled with bugs. They were unable to relax on holiday which unfortunately led to them booking a flight home early.

According to reviews on the TripAdvisor website, many other holidaymakers were also bitten by bed bugs.

One disgruntled holiday maker commented:

“Bed bugs bed bugs bed bugs… avoid like the plague”.

Another stated:

“Our room was infested with bedbugs”.

Some of the compensation awards which could be recovered for bed bug bites, in accordance with the JC Guidelines are:

– Single noticeable scar or several superficial scars justify an award between £2000 to £6900. Bed bug bites of the face which have resulted in facial scarring would result in a higher award.

-Itching, irritation or a rash resolving within a few months with treatment could be awarded from £1,500 to £3,500.

-Minor injuries where recovery is between seven days and three months merit an award ranging from £250 – £2,100.
