“The food quality is atrocious”: Claim that guest contracted E. Coli at Excellence el Carmen
A couple staying at the 5-star Excellence el Carmen resort, Dominican Republic in February say that they returned home “feeling sick to their stomachs” and that a travelling companion has been diagnosed with a harmful strain of E. Coli.
Posting under the user name ‘Relax29088558143’, the TripAdvisor reviewer states:
“Although the resort is beautiful and the staff are extremely nice/helpful, the food quality is atrocious. We have been home for two days and still feel sick to our stomachs. We travelled with another couple and one of them is now being treated for e-coli poisoning. We only ate at the resort, and by the end of the trip we were trying to avoid eating at all costs.”
The 5-star complex boasts 12 different restaurants (including a main buffet) and 16 bars to serve patrons staying in its 492 rooms. Case0149, another February visitor to the Excellence el Carmen posting a review, said:
“The food was not great and one of our party ended up getting food poisoning after the first night (either from The Lobster House or The Grille). This put a big damper on the trip. We had meals that were fine but nothing great.”
