Ashley Carroll Receives £4,350 Compensation After Holiday Injury
We were proud to act on behalf of Miss Ashley Carroll, a hardworking housekeeper from Manchester, who sustained painful injuries during a holiday that turned into a nightmare. With the support of Michael Walker here at Holiday Claims Bureau, Ashley successfully claimed £4,350 in compensation for the distress and disruption caused during her stay at the Ocean El Faro resort in the Dominican Republic.
Ashley and her partner, who is registered blind, had looked forward to a relaxing 11-night escape. She took care to request a ground-floor room for accessibility. But soon after arriving, she noticed a strong smell of damp and mould in the room. Despite reporting this to hotel staff and being assured a humidifier would be provided, no action was taken.
On the morning of 24 June 2024, Ashley slipped on a puddle of water caused by a leaking air conditioning unit. She fell awkwardly, suffering soft tissue injuries to her lower back, right forearm, and left foot. The accident had a lasting impact on her holiday and daily life afterwards and so she decided to pursue a holiday accident claim.
Medical Evidence and Ongoing Pain
Ashley was assessed by a medical Consultant who confirmed the injuries and the lingering pain, especially in her lower back. She underwent six sessions of privately funded sports massage therapy and continued to suffer discomfort for several months.
In her own words “We had planned this holiday for so long. Instead, I spent the majority of the trip in pain and worrying about how to care for my partner. It was such a relief when Michael and the team took the pressure off. They really listened and achieved more than we could have hoped for”
Holiday Claims Bureau fights for Justice
Working with Michael Walker of Holiday Claims Bureau, Ashley’s holiday accident claim was thoroughly investigated. The team highlighted clear breaches of health and safety standards by the hotel and failures by the tour operator, TUI UK Limited, to ensure guest safety.
“Ashley’s case highlights the possibilities of what can go wrong when hotels, particularly abroad, do not meet health and safety regulations. Ashley’s injuries and distress were entirely preventable.
“We’re pleased to have helped her secure fair compensation and recognition for what she went through” – Michael Walker, Solicitor, Holiday Claims Bureau.
Case Settled
Thanks to Michael Walker and the team at Holiday Claims Bureau, Ashley received £4,350 in compensation, a figure that reflected her pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment, and treatment costs. While no amount can compensate for Ashley’s experience, this outcome helped Ashley gain closure and receive the justice and best possible outcome.
