Holiday Villages Montenegro: Family take action amid illness outbreak claims

A family of six are reportedly taking legal action by filing holiday illness compensation claims after their £6,800 dream holiday turned into “complete hell” at the Holiday Villages Montenegro.

Despite being reassured by TUI having previously raised concerns after reading reviews on social media, Mrs Humphreys, her husband Kevin, their two children and Godparent arrived to a “half built hotel, stench of sewage and construction workers around every corner.”

Joanne told Essex Live:  “Our fears subsided until a couple of weeks before we were due to arrive, when I was informed that while the hotel would be completed, some of the facilities originally on offer were no longer going to be available such as the spa, hairdressers, the gym and the waterslides.

This led me to look on social media. There was a Facebook page full of people complaining how bad it actually was and that the resort wasn’t anywhere near finished.

“People were cancelling their holidays left, right and centre.

“We made our way back to the TUI shop to bring this to their attention but they insisted everything was on schedule and it would be fine when we got there”

The all-inclusive hotel was also only operating with one restaurant on arrival, instead of the four restaurants advertised and it was there that both Mrs Humphreys and her daughter Beth were served “raw food”, which they believe caused their illnesses.

60 guests reportedly ill as “sickness bug” sweeps through resort

Among the recent reviews on Facebook, Elaine Scott, from Glasgow commented: Sadly 3 out of 4 of the family came down with a sickness but as did about 60 other guests when we were there. Saw chef using same tongs for raw and cooked chicken and I question their hygiene.

“Flight met by paramedics”

Gary Marshall-Gleghorn from London who travelled to The Holiday Villages Montenegro earlier this month also commented: “Get rid of the Diarrhoea sickness bug sweeping the resort, so many people ill on transfer coach to airport and the flight was met by paramedics as someone was so ill……”

Meanwhile on TripAdvisor, July guest Brent C says that issues with the health of guests are ongoing after sickness hit his family stay:

“I have three sons and two have been unwell with sickness. I was aware of a previous outbreak just before we came which was denied by the hotel when I asked. My kids got sick towards the end of the holiday my youngest hasn’t had it yet I’m praying not when travelling I’ve read a couple of horror stories people being sick on bus transfer etc. I don’t think the problem has been properly addressed.”

Emma M, another July guest sharing her experience on TripAdvisor, claims that 3 of her party of 5 became gastroenteritis was “rife” at the hotel and that she observed several worrying food hygiene practices:

“Flies everywhere, in food, it’s disgusting, at the deluxe bar the chef was cooking my burger and about 5 flies were swarming it, walking over it, even though she could clearly see this was happening she proceeded to cook it and tried to serve me it, she was completely baffled when I asked for a new one, in the end I just left as was concerned about cleanliness.

My daughter cut up her beef, and it was pink inside, clearly not cooked properly. I witnessed utensils being used for chicken, then beef…”
