Holiday Claims Sirenis Punta Cana Resoort

Reports of Illness at the Sirenis Punta Cana Resort Casino & Aquagames

At the Holiday Claims Bureau, we have been instructed by a family of holidaymakers who are looking to file holiday illness compensation claim against a hotel. The party became unwell whilst staying at the all-inclusive resort Sirenis Punta Cana Resort. On return to the UK, one of the party was diagnosed as suffering from salmonella food poisoning.

The resort is promoted by TUI and has an official rating of 5 stars. It is situated in Uvero Alto, which according to TUI’s website ‘is one of the most secluded villages on Punta Cana’s exclusive Coconut Coast, a majestic 50-kilometre sweep of tropical shoreline in the north-east of the Dominican Republic.’ The website also describes the resort as a ‘food lovers paradise’, although some reviewers on TripAdvisor appear to disagree.

On disgruntled holidaymaker who holidayed at the resort in March commented:

‘As if our vacation did not start off poorly enough, on day two I got extremely ill. I inquired with Luis about seeing a nurse, but he told me that would also cost me. I spent all day of my second day of vacation in my room with violent vomiting and diarrhea. I believe it was from the food and I experienced food poisoning. Later, I spoke with many others staying at Sirenis who were just as sick too. I then spent everyday thereafter sick, albeit milder, but still sick. My family was also sick, just not as serious. I was unable to go on any retreat trips (as I was planning to), because I spent everyday was sick. This too ruined our vacation’.

Another guest who stayed at the resort in July stated:

‘I was Ill, my cousin was Ill and I had to take my one year old to hospital as he was so Ill.

The weather is lovely but that’s about it. The hotel is falling apart and you dice with death eating anything from the buffet. Nothing is hot, Nothing is covered so flies are all over the food.’

‘What can I say. Would never go back. The Hotel was not as advertised. Had a lot of issues from day one. The food every day was cold so had to be heated up in microwave (no wonder we all ended up with stomach bugs). Only half the resort was open. Whenever you complained all they did was smile at you and to top it all on the last night my husband nearly died due to the air conditioning catching fire. Let see what Thomson’s are going to do about that (without a smile on their face, hopefully).’

Sirenis Punta Cana Resort Casino & Aquagames Group Action

Our client was so incensed by the poor hygiene conditions and the quality and safety of the food provided in the resort that she complained to the TUI representative and TUI in the UK. It came as no surprise when almost everyone in her party became unwell suffering from diarrhoea and sickness.

One of the group was diagnosed as suffering from salmonella. Salmonella is the name of a group of bacteria and it is one of the most common causes of food poisoning. The sources of salmonella include contaminated eggs, poultry, meat, unpasteurised milk or juice, cheese, contaminated raw fruits and vegetables, spices, and nuts. The incubation period is 12-72 hours and the symptoms of salmonella food poisoning are diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps and vomiting. The illness is usually self-limiting and resolves within 4-7 days, although it can cause more serious illness in older adults, infants, and persons with chronic diseases.
